ATV Safety Tips
Taking your ATV out on the trails can be one of the most exhilarating experiences you’ll ever have, but it’s important to ensure you’re taking the proper precautions. Practicing ATV safety is important not only for your health but for the health of all other drivers out on the road.
At Vey’s Powersports in El Cajon, CA, we like to equip our customers with best practice advice to ensure they get the greatest value from their purchases. If you’re looking to purchase one of our ATVs, here are a few safety tips to practice while enjoying your new vehicle.
Proper Gear
Even the most experienced riders should avoid getting on their ATVs if they don’t have the proper riding gear on hand. Investing in the right helmets, long-sleeved shirts, gloves, etc. can save your life on the trails and prevent serious injuries in the event of an unfortunate accident. If your ATV accommodates passengers, ensure they’re wearing the right gear as well before hitting the road.
Avoid Paved Roads
As the name suggests, ATVs are for off-road terrains and should be kept there as much as possible. Venturing off the designated trails can result in collisions with other drivers on the highway. If this happens it is more than likely your ATV will be totaled and you will sustain major injuries. To avoid this, only use paved roads for crossing when it is safe and permitted under the law.
Keep Limbs Inside
All the fun and excitement you’ll experience on your ATV can get overwhelming. It’s important not to get caught up in the moment and extend your hands and feet off the ATV. Stunts like this might impress your friends but could again result in unnecessary injuries. Be sure to keep all extremities close to your body throughout your rides.
