Many riders take pride in their motorcycles. They want their bikes to look their best at all times, and they are willing to put in the time and effort to make their motorcycles shine. That is why the experts at Vey’s Powersports have put together this guide to cleaning your motorcycle.

Prepare Your Worksite

Start by finding a spot that offers you plenty of room to work but is out of direct sunlight. Direct light can cause the soapy water to dry faster, creating ugly streaks and soap spots. Next, gather up any brushes, clothes, sponges, and other supplies you plan to use. Double-check your owner’s manual to make sure that your chosen cleaners won’t cause any harm to your bike.

Before you start rinsing, make sure your motorcycle’s exhaust has been plugged. Never clean your bike directly after a ride, as the cold water can cause cracks in vital components when the motorcycle is still warm.

Rinse Your Motorcycle

Spray your motorcycle down with a mixture of water and motorcycle cleaner. This will help loosen any caked-on dirt or grime. When it is time to rinse your motorcycle off, we recommend only using a standard pressure hose. A high-pressure hose may be faster, but it can cause damage to your vehicle.

Scrub Away

You can then move on to using the suds, starting at the top and working your way down. This will help you ensure that you don’t clean the same area twice. Keep in mind that you might need to clean your sponge a few times, or even rinse out your bucket and replace the mixture if things get too dirty. You should also avoid scrubbing too hard, as this can damage your motorcycle.

Let Your Motorcycle Dry

Now it is time to dry your motorcycle. While a cloth will work for most parts of the bike, a leaf blower or a can of compressed air can help you get into the hard-to-reach crevices. Once you are done drying the motorcycle, re-lube the chain and apply a layer of wax and polish to help protect the finish. Your bike will shine like never before!
