Dirt biking is an exciting sport, but it’s not without its risks. Wearing the correct riding gear can go a long way towards mitigating those risks and protecting you from an accident. Of course, finding the correct riding gear isn’t always as easy as it sounds. This guide from Vey’s Powersports can help you find a set of dirt bike riding gear that will work for you.

1. Helmet & Eye Protection

Head injuries are a serious matter. Never attempt to ride a dirt bike without wearing a well-fitting, DOT-certified helmet. Helmets come in many different styles, so look through your options and pick one that’s a good fit for you. If the helmet you choose doesn’t come with any kind of built-in eye protection, be sure to find a good pair of goggles to pair with it.

2. Riding Boots

Riding boots help to protect your feet and maintain your balance. Boot laces can get tangled up in your dirt bike’s pedals or chain, so unlaced boots are usually the better option. Make sure that the riding boots are a good fit for you!

3. Knee Braces

Knee injuries are very common among dirt bike riders, so many choose to wear a pair of knee braces to provide protection to the knees and lower legs. These knee braces should be comfortable and well-fitting while still providing adequate protection.

4. Gloves

Riding gloves help you maintain a firm grip on your handlebars and protect your hands from flying debris. Your riding gloves should fit snugly without feeling uncomfortable to wear. Breathability is another important factor.

5. Chest Protection

Finally, dirt bike riders often wear some form of chest protection. Lighter forms of chest protection will only shield you from flying dirt and rocks, while heavier chest protectors will shield your body in the event of a crash.
