Your Guide to Proper UTV Maintenance
UTVs are created to withstand some of the roughest terrains. That is why they are used often around the San Diego and Santee, California, areas. This, of course, does not mean you should neglect to conduct regular maintenance on them. When regular maintenance is not provided to a UTV, costly issues can quickly become a reality. We at Vey's Powersports in El Cajon, California, understand this, which is why the following guide has been created for anyone who wants their UTV to work properly for years to come.
Proper Storage
Properly storing away your UTV at the end of a trip or the summer season is extremely important to keep it running smoothly. This is because how your UTV is stored will determine how it's going to function/look when you want to use it again. Those living in the San Diego and Santee, California, area understand just how intense the sun can be throughout the year. If left out in the open, the sun quickly begins to affect your UTV's paint job as well as other components. Therefore, it is recommended to store your UTV in your garage or at least protect it by covering it with a UTV cover.
Taking Care of Your Metal or Plastic Fuel Tanks
If you're not going to store away your UTV just yet, but you're not going to use it anytime soon, it is recommended to keep your fuel tank in mind. Those with plastic fuel tanks will need to remove all their fuel from their tanks as sitting gas can quickly go bad. If your UTV has a metal fuel tank, you should make sure that you do the opposite. Adding a fuel stabilizer to your tank may decrease the time it takes for gasoline to evaporate and degrade within your fuel tank.
Changing Your Oil
In terms of oil changes, you may be wondering when and how often you should do it. Although things such as the number of times you've used your UTV and how long you've had it will factor into the final decision, most experts will say that your oil should be changed every 40 hours. This usually translates to a couple of times a year, especially if you're using it often. Note that once you change your oil and want to use your UTV again that you let the engine idle for a few minutes. This will allow the oil to lubricate the moving parts of your UTV.
